Stoke v Spurs: reaction

By Ian Probert »

IT wasn’t funny at the time, but I can’t help smile now at Stoke’s initial struggle to finish off a 10 man Tottenham Hotspur.

Having seen Gareth Bale red-carded for bringing down Soares and giving away a penalty, the Potters accepted the gift, scored and then relaxed.

More than relaxed, they seemed to be more chilled out than Ricardo Fuller lounging on a sun lounger on a Jamaican beach while fair maidens served him ice cold drinks.

Who’s worried? They seemed to be saying. It’s only Spurs. We’re a goal up, they’re a man down.

And having dominated the game by refusing to give Tottenham time and space, they let them pass the ball round and come back into the match.

Spurs equalised and the Potters were given a half time rocket by their manager, which did the trick.

Who’s worried? They seemed to be saying. It’s only Spurs. We’re a goal up, they’re a man down.

Ian Probert sees the funny side of Stoke against Tottenham

True, it was worrying listening to the penalty miss in the second half and thinking, ‘is this going to be one of those days?’, but we won.

But there’s something endearing about the thought of a Stoke side, playing Tottenham and thinking - we’ve got this one in the bag!

We are five points ahead of Spurs in the Premiership table.

Excuse me, I’m just going to pinch myself.
