Witton Church Walk CE Primary school has just celebrated Making A Difference to our community.

Children were asked to pledge good deeds and families supported the Food Bank at Bethel Church in Rudheath by donating food parcels.

Weavervale Housing Trust donated a prize of £100 shopping vouchers that they gave to me for charitable purposes, as have local businesses such as Wilsons Hairdressers.

This exercise in human kindness is something everyone can take on board.

Fine and noble as it is to donate to charity, it is also a small way we can all change society.

Not in the hateful scepticism of the latest government, but by the small random acts of kindness that can generate the real happiness that only loving others can bring.

That is the choice we face today – to be happy or to focus on consuming.

Poverty brings with it worry, poor diets, emotional upheaval, sometimes destructive choices result.

But anyone can be happy regardless of their situation in life.

But it will not come by looking in the mirror or in the gossip mags and tabloids.

Happiness is the reward of the truly compassionate. Try it. Love someone without expecting anything back. Just for one day.

Make your kindness felt rather than seen. Feel the beauty of love in your inner being.

Give up gossip, comparisons, judgements, vanity, envy, jealousy, selfishness just for one day.

Instead see the other person (especially an ‘enemy’) as if that person were you. Then treat them how you want others to treat you.

Imagine there is no difference between you and that other person. Their feelings are your feelings.

This is the truly revolutionary stuff that worries the governments of this world. A world governed by the principles of love has no profit in it.

Make a Difference in your world today: Love people.
