Mark Danks brace seals back-to-back wins for Northwich Victoria

NORTHWICH Victoria moved out of the bottom three for the first time this season after humbling Hyde United.

Their win, a second in the past seven days following a midweek success at AFC Telford United, was a comfortable one.

Shorn of first choice keeper James Spencer after he was injured in the pre-match warm up, the hosts scored first on 17 minutes.

Mike Aspin’s cross was headed in off the far post by Jonny Allan, his fourth goal in eight starts this term.

He almost doubled his team’s tally after rounding debutant Tigers’ keeper Matthew Convey soon afterwards, but his shot from an acute angle was off target.

Mat Bailey had twice gone close with headers, both from Lee Elam corners, before playing a pivotal part in Vics’ second.

His goalbound header helped over the line by Mark Danks from under the crossbar.

Hyde almost shipped a third when Michael Connor picked Ashley Eastham’s pocket before teeing up Allan, but this time Convey saved with an outstretched leg.

The pattern was little changed after the break, Connor splitting the Tigers’ backline to send Danks clear and he slid home the hosts’ third.

Connor almost earned reward for his performance when he met Wayne Riley’s corner, but Convey parried his header.

At the other end Scott McNiven kicked fresh air after Nathan Arnold had picked a hole in Vics’ defence.

Sub Lee Rick did reduce their arrears on the whistle, blasting home an expert finish after when one-on-one with Curtis Aspden.
