NORTHWICH Victoria deserved their share of the spoils from a feisty friendly.

Both teams finished with 10 men after Chris Flynn’s spat with Ian Herring led to the pair seeing red before the break.

Neither can have any complaint.

Former Northwich man Flynn, already booked, was author of countless fouls on his opponent in the opening exchanges and finished by forcing his head into Herring’s head space.

The ex-Salisbury City man reacted with a swipe The spiky tone stayed for the rest of an encounter in which chances were fluffed at both ends of the pitch.

Omar Mahmood should have struck for the Dabbers inside five minutes, but failed to make enough contact with Rodney Jack’s centre to trouble Curtis Aspden.

The on-trial shot-stopper thwarted Michael Lennon after the Nantwich skipper raced clear, while at the other end Ben Chapman tipped over Wayne Riley’s swerving free kick.

The teenager screwed a shot inches past the far post after Jon Newby had swapped passes with Lee Elam, then Mat Bailey’s back post header was smuggled off the line from Riley’s deep corner.

Flynn and Herring traded insults then fisticuffs to cut short their contributions.

But referee Steve Swallow did himself no favours when, at the start of the second period, he ignored Darren Tinson’s shove on Harry Winter after the pair had slid for a loose ball.

Matt Rhead’s flick on sent Lennon one-on-one with Aspden for a second time but the outcome was the same as in the first half – the former Farsley Celtic shot-stopper making a smart smother.

Newby then spurned Vics’ best chance, slicing a weak shot straight at sub keeper Lee Jones from inside the six-yard box after Bailey had crafted an opening.

Another sub, Aaron Burns, then forced the Dabbers’ number one to parry at his near post from Riley’s assist.
