NORTHWICH Victoria are still searching for their first goal of the summer after firing a blank against Manchester City Reserves.

The visitors scored twice from identical set pieces before the break.

David Ball skidded a header off the far post from Karl Moore’s free kick on seven minutes, Blues skipper Clayton McDonald repeating the trick from Donal McDermott’s dead ball shortly before half time.

In between Vics’ most threatening moment saw Wayne Riley screw a shot wide of the upright after racing onto James Coates’ long punt forward.

Andy Preece’s men improved after the break, Mark Danks twice going close before keeper Tobias Johansen tipped over Riley’s dipping free kick.

Jon Newby came closest to a reply, his looping shot hitting the angle of post and bar after sub Cayne Hanley had flicked on with his head But City – who handed a late cameo to Kasper Schmeichel – had the final say, Ball blasting in his second from an acute angle after spinning away from Luke Horrocks inside the penalty area.
