Jake Robinson snatches win for Shrewsbury at Northwich Victoria

Vics 0 Shrewsbury 1 Vics 0 Shrewsbury 1

JAKE Robinson grabbed the game’s only goal as Vics started their summer with a defeat.

The front runner – who scored a hat-trick for Brighton against Northwich in THAT FA Cup match in 2006 – pounced on Mat Bailey’s weak defensive header in the closing stages to coolly slot the winner.

Paul Simpson’s men were worthy winners.

They crafted the clearest openings, Omer Riza fluffing the best within minutes of the restart from Jake Simpson’s clever cut back.

The hosts had chances of their own too.

Wayne Riley forced Chris Neal into a smart save low to his left in the first half, while Ian Herring twice went close from the edge of the box.

Bailey headed Harry Winter’s set piece into the side netting late on as he tried to atone for his earlier mistake, while Cayne Hanley flicked Mark Danks’ centre the wrong side of the upright from close range.
