Match Pointers
HOLDERS Northwich Victoria hope to extend a nine-matches winning sequence under Andy Preece in the competition, stretching more than two years.

A 2-1 success at Football League opponents Crewe Alexandra ranks probably as their best win in that time too.

Vics’ boss is likely to shuffle his pack with one eye on next week’s crunch clash with Chester, with newcomer Louis Horne, Steve Abbott, Sean Kinsella and Michael Clarke among those in line to start.

Michael Roddy and Tom Smyth are back from a ban too.

Stalybridge have their own Christmas blockbuster to look forward to against title rivals and neighbours Hyde, so manager Jim Harvey may also rest key men.

He still picked a strong team to face Chester in the last round though.

In-form Connor Jennings could make way, while ex-Northwich front man Phil Marsh – the Celts’ top scorer – would love the chance to put one over on his former employers.

Utility man Callum Warburton played, albeit briefly, at the Victoria Stadium during Steve Burr’s final season at the helm in 2006-2007.
