The midfielder turned and shot in one smooth movement 15 minutes from time to earn a deserved draw for the visitors.
Earlier Richard Brodie had pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area to steer the Minstermen in front.
But it was Northwich who looked the more likely victors after the break with Aaron Burns, Matthew Crowell and Byrne again all going close.
