Why should I watch..?

Both teams are desperate to conclude disappointing seasons on a positive note by winning a trophy.

1874 Northwich are the holders after beating Witton in last year’s final, when they collected a first piece of silverware since the club’s formation.

They also ran out comfortable 2-0 victors when the sides met in a Cheshire FA Senior Cup tie in January.

Five of Vics’ starters that night have since left the club

Manager Paul Moore has said he wants his players to put a smile on their supporters’ faces by winning a final against local rivals.

Numbers game

Only Atherton Collieries, favourites to be promoted from the North West Counties League as champions, have beaten 1874 Northwich at Barton Stadium since Paul Bowyer and Wayne Goodison took charge.

However they have kept only one clean-sheet in 10 games to date.

Vics will be glad to reach the end of the season after losing five of their final six matches in the Northern Premier League, a sequence that has condemned them to relegation.

They have collected more points on their travels this term, and may prefer to play away after conceding 15 goals in their past four home games.

Man to keep an eye on

Matty Clarke

The Northwich Victoria midfielder was the outstanding performer for his side during the teams’ previous meeting in January.

Could partner John Bennett in the centre, or play in a position on the right if manager Paul Moore selects Lingouba Cesaire.

If he plays well, then his side have a chance.

1874 team news

Full-back Matthew Russell (toe) is an injury doubt but Sam Hare, Sam Hind and Ryan Mitchell – none of whom played at AFC Darwen last weekend – will be available for selection.

Front man Jason Carey has played his final game for the club, and has departed.

Vics team news

Defender Andrew Fitzgerald returns after completing a three-match ban while Lingouba Cesaire, Stuart McDonald and Niall Sultan – who all missed Saturday’s trip to Spalding – are expected to be available too.

Versatile midfielder Matty Clarke was back at the weekend as well after returning from holiday.
