PAUL Moore is confident his Northwich Victoria side is improving, but has called on them to start picking up points if they are to remain in a fight for survival.

A goalless stalemate at home to Leek Town last weekend was a second in succession, leaving the ex-Colwyn Bay boss without a win from his first six games in charge.

They sit seven points adrift of a position of safety ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Gresley, kick off 3pm.

“We’re gelling, but we need to win games to give ourselves a chance,” said Moore.

“The lads’ work-rate is there, and we’re hard to beat – what we need now is to develop a killer instinct and create those clear-cut opportunities.”

To help, he has agreed terms with front man Niall Sultan, who has spent time previously this season at Retford United and Silsden.

Vics will also be boosted this weekend by the return of Godwin Abadaki, who has been side-lined by a shoulder injury since before Christmas.

Another attacker – one of quality, according to Moore – could arrive next week following initial talks.

The hosts this weekend, Gresley, occupy 17th place in the Northern Premier League’s Division One South after losing four of their past five matches.

They are 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

Moore said: “We can expect a tough game; Gresley are a difficult side to break down and have plenty of pace in wide positions.

“We’ll have to be resolute, and pick our moments to attack.”
