ADAM Lakeland believes his Northwich Victoria side is more resilient than previously, pointing to Tuesday’s draw at Belper as proof.

Vics earned a share of the spoils following a goalless stalemate with a Nailers team enjoying their best run of results this season.

It means they have shut out opponents in successive matches for the first time this term too.

“The traffic was awful and we arrived in dribs and drabs,” said the manager.

“It meant our preparation wasn’t ideal, but the lads didn’t look for excuses – they just got on with it and put in another good display against an in-form Belper.

“That epitomises the togetherness and spirit that’s building in our dressing room.”

In a game of few chances, Belper custodian Dan Haystead tipped Michael Brewster’s first-half free kick onto the woodwork.

He also used his legs to thwart the same player when they came face-to-face in the second half.

At the other end, Andy Fitzgerald’s block denied Sam Birks a certain goal before Phil Watt’s header crashed against the crossbar late on.

Lakeland added: “A draw wasn’t a bad result, but I felt if one side deserved to nick a win then it was us.

“They never really threatened our goal despite getting into some good positions, and I felt we were solid again defensively.

“We’re on a decent little run now with two wins and a draw from our past four games, so confidence is high.”

He will check on the fitness of midfielder Simon Lakeland, who came off in midweek with a tight hamstring, for Saturday’s trip to Stamford.

Jamie Hinchliffe stands by.

Stamford sit 18th in the Northern Premier League Division One South table following a 2-0 win against Loughborough on Wednesday.

However they have played fewer matches than everybody else, only 10 so far, after reaching the FA Cup first round.

The Daniels’ run ended at Hartlepool last weekend, when they lost 3-0.
