NORTHWICH Victoria may not have won a game this season, but manager Adam Lakeland believes a change in fortune is imminent.

His side, reduced to 10 men by John Pritchard’s dismissal, recovered from 2-1 down to claim a point at promotion-favourites Shaw Lane on Monday afternoon.

They head to Basford, opponents with whom they shared four goals at Wincham Park on the campaign’s opening day, in a rearranged fixture this weekend.

“I feel like the result [at Shaw Lane] could be a turning point,” said Lakeland.

“It’s important we repeat that performance in the games to come. If we can, we’ll be fine.

“We must remain positive; there’s still a long way to go, and we’ll improve as a team.”

Vics have suffered home defeats to Romulus and Spalding in Division One South so far, both teams that occupy a place in the table’s top three behind landlords Witton Albion.

However a battling performance against hosts that reached the play-offs final last term has left Lakeland feeling optimistic.

He added: “We’ve been competitive in all of our league games – look at where those teams are.

“It would have been easy to shrink after we lost a man and taken a beating, but what I saw in the final half hour was a group coming together and fighting for each other.”
