JIM Gannon says the current tricky sequence is a test of table-topping Northwich Victoria's credentials after an unbeaten start to the campaign.

A visit to higher-ranked Hyde United, from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top flight, for an FA Cup second qualifying round tie on Saturday will be the third of five consecutive outings on the road – providing a replay does not scupper next Tuesday's Division One North fixture at Droylsden.

Gannon says focus has been key as his men made it 10 games undefeated in all competitions with Saturday's 2-1 success at Farsley Celtic.

They headed to Clitheroe last night, Tuesday.

"Farsley, Clitheroe, Hyde, Droylsden and Lancaster are five tough away games in a row to face and a real challenge to our positive run," said Gannon.

"But we have just concentrated on one step at a time and getting the best out of each game.

"The staff and players should be proud and pleased with themselves for the hard work and effort they have put into the season so far and the rewards they have gained."

Gannon was pleased to overcome the Farsley hurdle, after expectations of being put under pressure proved true.

"Throstle Nest is a tough place to go and get a result, and it was in the back of my mind that this was the place of our first defeat last season," he said.

"Despite a couple of edgy moments we saw the game out and recorded an incredible 10th win in a row."
