WITTON Albion have announced their league fixture with Northwich Victoria on Bank Holiday Monday will kick off in the evening.

Chairman Mark Harris said in a statement that he hopes more people will be persuaded to watch the Division One North fixture – a first league meeting between the clubs since 1994 – if it starts at 7.45pm.

It avoids too a clash with the annual Northwich Festival, which anticipates attracting a large crowd to Moss Farm earlier the same day.

“Having consulted the relevant authorities – and with the agreement of both Vics and the Northern Premier League – we’ve agreed to put the kick off back,” said Harris.

“It also affords players from both teams more time to recover from their FA Cup ties on the Saturday.”

Albion have been paired with league rivals Trafford in the FA Cup preliminary round, while tenants Northwich visit North West Counties League outfit Runcorn Town – Witton’s conquerors in last season’s edition.

If either of those games end in a draw, then the derby will be postponed to accommodate a replay.
