NORTHWICH Victoria will enjoy the luxury of a home match on the opening day of next season.

Promotion hopefuls Cambridge United, who were the visitors on the closing afternoon last season, come to the Marston's Arena on Saturday, August 9, kick off 3pm.

The first month promises to be a tricky one for Dino Maamria's men, with visits to Burton Albion, Grays Athletic and new boys Mansfield Town.

York City are the only other opponents at home in that time.

As expected Vics will entertain neighbours Altrincham on Boxing Day - the reverse fixture takes place on New Year's Day - while both tussles with Wrexham take place on a Tuesday night.

Fortunately long distance trips to Eastbourne Borough, Lewes, Torquay United and Weymouth are all scheduled for Saturday.

And Maamria's men will cover more miles than last season - an extra 230 to be precise - with the 512-mile round trip to Eastbourne Borough the furthest day out.

The team bus will cover 3,578 miles in total, a mere jaunt compared to the huge 5,733 miles facing new boys Barrow.

The departures of Halifax Town, Droylsden, Farsley Celtic and Stafford Rangers from non-league football's top flight mean that the 38 miles to Wrexham is the closest away day after the short drive to Moss Lane.
