NORTHWICH Victoria added their name to a growing list of teams unable to stop Farsley.

The Celts extended a winning run in the league to 10 matches with five second-half goals, making new boss Adam Lakeland’s debut in the dugout one he’ll want to forget.

“We didn’t deserve anything,” he reflected afterwards.

“The players are hurting, and no doubt they’ll react positively next time out.”

Vics have not lost this heavily in front of their own fans since a 6-1 hammering by Kendal back in October 2010.

And, like in that fixture, they started brightly.

Richie Bennett steered a volley off-target, as did Brian Summerskill when he drilled low from the edge of the box.

Aiden Savory contributed the visitors’ solitary attempt, but did not cause debutant goalkeeper Lewis King – standing in for injured Mason Springthorpe – to dirty his gloves.

The visitors took the lead from their first foray of the second period, Chris Howarth heading in Aaron Hardy’s cross at the back post.

Lewis Nightingale was quickest to react after King parried Jordan Deacey’s shot at the end of a mazy dribble, making it 2-0.

The midfielder then doubled his personal tally on 65 minutes, this time with the help of a slight deflection.

Substitute Gary Burnett prompted Farsley goalkeeper Tom Taylor to save his well-struck effort, but worse was to follow when another replacement, Lewis Sugden finished smartly after Nightingale had supplied a smart assist from the left.

Nightingale then capped an outstanding individual performance with his side’s fifth goal late on, converting from the penalty spot after Michael Roddy fouled Josh Grant.

Lakeland added: “The goals we conceded were soft.

“At half time I said they would have a real go at us, and we needed to get through that first 15 minutes.

“So to concede two very poor goals in that time was disappointing.”

A trip to Lancaster follows on Saturday.
