Northwich Victoria Supporters Association will 'give a voice' to Vics fans, says its organisers

Fans plan to start new support group Fans plan to start new support group

FANS behind a proposed new supporters group say they plan to represent Northwich Victoria followers who have stayed silent since the club was left homeless.

They met in Lostock last week for the first time.

“We feel that there is a high number of Vics fans out there who have been quiet,” said club secretary Dave Thomas.

“They’re probably feeling frustrated that they’ve not got a voice, a way of finding out information about what is happening.

“That’s the main principle behind establishing this group.”

He said a dozen fans, including himself and club president Derek Nuttall, agreed to organise following a meeting at Lostock Gralam Community Centre last Thursday.

Club owner Jim Rushe did not attend, according to Thomas.

Northwich Victoria Supporters Association, which is also the current company name of Northwich Victoria Supporters Trust, issued a statement, written by Nuttall, this weekend.

It read: “The main objective of the association is to act as a focal point of support for Northwich Victoria Football Club and to work with it to find a home in Northwich where it can continue its existence.”

The team currently hosts opponents in Stafford, more than 40 miles away from its now former Victoria Stadium home.

Vics players prepare for matches on a pitch at Flixton, in Greater Manchester, where the club hopes to be based from next season.

The supporters association says it will host an open forum for Northwich fans in the coming weeks to explain how it will function.

Before then it will form a committee.

An attempt last year to revive the old Northwich Victoria Supporters Club, led by a man with no previous connection to Vics and who had never even seen them play, was unsuccessful.

Thomas added: “This time it’s different to that; everybody around the table at Lostock is a long-standing Vics fan.”

All twelve of them!
Not so much an association, more of a last desperate act from a group of lemmings hurtling toward the void - give the dead dog a decent burial and stop dragging his carcase out. No one in Northwich, apart from these twelve, wants anything to do with the disgrace that Northwich Victoria has become anymore - we have our new club and new beginning.

I have to add that there is NO WAY that the club in it's present form will ever return to the town with Jim Rushe as owner.

I wonder what the legalities of forming a group in the name of an existing limited company are?

Sorry markust the your trust board member declared on the 5th january that it HAD changed the trust name from northwich victoria supporters assoc ltd to 1874 northwich footbal club ltd, and on the basis of that comment we changed the original name which was going to be "the real vics supporters assoc" so on that we democratically voted to use the name northwich victoria supporters assoc on the 24th january. Left hand does not know what the right hand is doing.

Heard you the first time, still doesn't make it any less an amount of hogwash no matter how many times you keep saying it Colin/Steve/whomever

We all know what your right hand is doing.

You have your new club and new beginning so get on with it then!
Instead of being bothered about what we are doing.

Lemming? That would be you following Stockton on his cloak and dagger missions.
And if you put as much effort into your 'new' club, as much as you keyboard bash, you might get a 1% chance of making a go of it ;)

I'd settle for 95% of a chance personally.

There is obviously nothing 'cloak and dagger' about a group of 12 largely unnamed individuals holding a private and previously unpublicised meeting in a suburban community hall.

Let them go ahead with their Genuine Association of Real Supporters of the Official Northwich Victoria Football Club, or whatever else they wish to call it. It will change nothing about the reality of the situation.

"They’re probably feeling frustrated that they’ve not got a voice, a way of finding out information about what is happening", it says.

How many years has it taken these 12 people to realise that this has for too long been the norm at this particular football club and that the vast majority of "silent fans" have given up and walked away - most of them even before the VS was vacated.

The club is a walking (well, limping) PR disaster and I look forward with anticipation to any attempts to cast any good light on all the dark shadows which surround it.

Forgive me, I'm become a little confused with all the Northwich Vics Supporters groups that The Guardian makes reference to.

For the sake of clarity, and possibly sanity, can someone tell me if the latest incarnation of a Vics Supporters Group ...Lets call them The 12 Apostles...are in support of Jim Rushe and his version of Northwich Vics?
If they are, then one can only assume the 'silent majority' Dave Thomas refer's too also share this support for the current Vics owner.

They are a group of 'fans' who in a secret anonymous meeting decided to create a open new supporters group. They called it the same name as the legal name of the Trust presumably to make some big fuss about the fact the FSA have asked the trust to change their name via a merger and rejected their initial proposal to change the name of the current trust.

Maybe I'm just cynical and there really are more than 10 people left following NVFC. Massive coincidence with timing though isn't it?

Thanks Markust. Thats a bit clearer but I still don't understand where their ... The 12... allegiance lies? Are they in support of the current incarnation of The Vics i.e. The one run by Jim Rushe? If so, then there is a bland assumption that the 'silent majority' of Vics fans they refer too are of the same mindset...which is frankly mind-boggling in its naivety.

That aside...it seems to me that the 12 Apostles have been involved in Vics administration etc for some time ,,, Club Secretary etc etc... and suddenly with the creation of the Supporters Club, they have been ousted. A bit of a coup in other words.
So no, I don't think you are being cynical for one moment...

No, not really markust. The meeting took place on 24th jan before anything came out about the trust problems with the fsa it was on the same night as your meeting with the two ex northwich victoria fc players and your trust board member had already stated your name HAD been changed earlier in the month.

Not sure why your making a song and dance about it, you voted to change your policy of not supporting northwich victoria fc anymore.

The headline in the guardian this morning was "fans groups to go down different paths" i would like to point out that your group has gone down a different path, ours is on the same path as always been and thats to support our football club northwich victoria football club.

Absolute rubbish! This move by this so called JR12 was without a shadow of doubt premeditated, designed to cause unrest and discredit the Supporters Trust.
So there you have it, Rushe gives his best wishes to 1874 but then sends out his ****-lickers to disrupt the proceedings.
It wouldn't surprise me if that has-bean was involved somewhere along the line.

No, nor mr mcnally, most clubs need a supporters group these days and since the trust has changed its policy in not supporting northwich victoria fc anymore, something was needed to be done.

What you saying that we are not allowed to set up a group ever again just incase it upsets the trust which has voted not to support northwich vics anymore. It does not have any effect on your club or the trust now whatsover. A local company have even agreed to sponsor us too so all good and i walked to the match yesterday to raise a bit of money for it.

Dont forget the saying, from little acorns oak trees grow.

So lets get this right...
The 12 Apostles support the old Northwich Vics. That's the one with Jim Rushe at the helm. So one can assume they support Jim Rushe...well if they dont why support the old regime?

Lets assume 'The 12' had some role to play in the old regime, Club Secretary for example.

With the rise of the new Vics Supporters Club, the 12 feel a tad annoyed. They are no longer needed. It's a classic case of the younger generation ushering the old guys out the door.

So the 12 feel a bit miffed and start their own Supporters Club. One where they can still be in charge.

Am I wrong?

On the plus side gate figures sometimes come near to three figures.

"ours is on the same path as always been"

It's quite a long path isn't it - Nantwich - Kidsgrove - Leek - Stafford and ending up in Flixton?

Surprised someone hasn't got themselves sponsored to walk it.

Really! I thought the saying is 'Mighty oaks from little acorns grow....

However in Rushe's case the saying is 'Mighty debts from little conmen grow'.
