Veteran motor-racing commentator Murray Walker is making an unlikely career change - by appearing as a skateboarding ace in a children's TV show.

The 87-year-old will be seen taking the chequered flag on four wheels when he makes an athletic appearance in Roary The Racing Car. An animated version of the broadcasting veteran will do backflips and a range of other skate stunts in the hit show next week.

He said: "Who would have thought that at 87 years, I could perform a routine including a body jar, tailslide, double backflip and a caballerial - it's extraordinary!"

Walker is a regular voice in the show, known to young fans as Mr Murray. But he will be seen giving skate stars such as Tony Hawks a run for their money when he shows off his skills on September 13.

Mr Murray will be seen on the track at Silver Hatch when the edition is screened at 7.30pm on Five's Milkshake children's slot, and at 2pm on Nick Jr.

The new episodes also feature Peter Kay as the voice of Big Chris, and veteran racing driver Sir Stirling Moss as the narrator.
