Witton Albion manager Brian Pritchard says win at Chorley will have attracted attention of league rivals

MANAGER Brian Pritchard believes Witton’s win at Chorley will attract attention from Albion’s league rivals.

His players were winners by the same score as Saturday’s home win against Blyth Spartans, but leaving Victory Park with maximum points will surprise many.

“People will take notice now,” said Pritchard.

“We knew what we are capable of, now we’ve proven it.”

Witton, promoted via the play-offs to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top tier last season, were rated by bookies at rank outsiders before a ball was kicked.

Beating a team tipped to challenge for the title on their own pitch will change that, according to Pritchard.

He added: “We deserved to win.

“The only complaint I can have is that we had enough chances before half time to settle the outcome, but we didn’t.

“We continued to work hard in the second half, and the lads got the reward of another goal.

“Chorley put us under pressure after they scored, but I thought we stood up to it well.

“The front players tired, so I put on Josh Glover to make it harder to play through us.”

His smile was broad when a Chorley fan suggested Witton were now contenders for a play-offs place this time around.

“I don’t think so,” he said.

“We’re just another three points closer to staying up.”

Albion’s unbeaten run in the league is at 18 matches following their 2-1 success, a sequence that started in February.

They travel to Worksop Town this Saturday, kick off 3pm.
