BRIAN Pritchard will tell his side to shoot when they get a sight of goal at Bamber Bridge tomorrow, Saturday.

Witton left it late to pinch the points at Clitheroe in midweek – top scorer Alex Titchiner taking his season goals tally to 28 with three minutes remaining – but they were shot-shy, according to the manager.

He said: “We tried to score the perfect goal.

“I thought we played well though and nobody can argue that we didn’t deserve to win the game, but it would have been nice to have put it to bed sooner.”

Albion moved to within seven points of leaders AFC Fylde following Tuesday’s 1-0 win, extending their unbeaten sequence on the road to seven matches.

They have also only lost one of nine games since tumbling at home to Trafford in January.

Pritchard told the Guardian earlier this week that his players had shown character to rescue a point from losing positions twice in seven days before their trip to Clitheroe.

He believes matches at Salford and against Farsley, both that ended 1-1, would have been lost earlier in the campaign.

“We’re stronger now,” he said.

“People have questioned whether we have a soft heart, but I’ve seen spirit in this group that has helped us to take something from two difficult matches.”

He will be without midfield anchor Carl Clampitt in Lancashire this weekend, but Anthony Gardner and Josh Hancock are expected to be available again after missing Witton’s midweek win to nurse minor knocks.
