WITTON boss Brian Pritchard admitted his team’s Boxing Day win at neighbours Warrington might not have been pretty, but the points earned are precious ones.
Albion will start the New Year in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North top five as a reward for their 2-0 success.
“Job done,” was the manager’s verdict.
“It was horrible game on a poor pitch but we went there and did what we had to, which was to win.”
Former Warrington front man Chris Gahgan continued his goals sequence – now three in as many games since returning to Northwich – to put the visitors on their way.
Anthony Sheehan, Witton’s latest penalty taker, converted from the spot four minutes later after Steven Scott had tripped Danny Andrews.
It was enough to earn Albion a sixth away day success of the term.
Pritchard added: “Our lads took some stick with one or two hefty tackles [Warrington had six players booked] but they didn’t let it deflect them.
“It’s good for me to know we have that in our locker.”
Albion, who host Trafford next on Monday afternoon, are now only seven points adrift of long-time leaders Curzon Ashton with half of their matches still to play.
