IAN Kearney has left Evo-Stick League Premier Division outfit Ashton United to return to Witton Albion after two years’ away.
Ashton boss Danny Johnson broke the news this week.
He said: “Ian was offered more money to join Witton.
“I will never hold any player back from bettering themselves, but my only disappointment with losing him is as that he’s dropped down a division.”
The 23-year-old left Wincham Park for Hurst Cross in 2008 after making more than 40 starts in league and cup for Albion following his four-figures transfer from Radcliffe Borough.
His last kick in red and white was to miss a decisive penalty in a Premier Division play-offs semi final against Buxton, which was then manager Jim Vince’s last match in charge.
After his departure Kearney quickly established himself as captain at Ashton.
Johnson added: “He’s done really well for me and goes with my best wishes.”
