Witton can score without Fozzie, says manager

WITTON manager Gary Finley says his team has enough firepower to win matches even without top scorer Steve Foster.

The former Salford City front man starts a three-matches suspension tomorrow, Saturday, when his teammates take on Carlton Town at Wincham Park.

“There’s no point making excuses about who isn’t playing or who is so I won’t harp on about it,” said the Albion boss.

“There’s enough quality in our attack even without Fozzie to score goals – it’s up to us to prove that at the weekend.”

Carl Lamb is a doubt too after picking up an injury during Witton’s draw at Glapwell in midweek, leaving Ronnie Morgan and Mike Moseley as a potential spearhead to Albion’s attack.

They will be tasked with delivering a second successive home win when the Millers arrive in town.

“Every game is important but the good thing is that right now we have our destiny in our hands more or less,” said Finley.

“There will be plenty of twists and turns [in the play-offs race] yet but providing we can string a few results together in the coming weeks then we’ll be right back up there.

“I don’t feel results have mirrored our performances in the past couple of weeks.

“We’ve been doing well in large parts of games without getting our noses in front, so now we need to make sure we get a few more points on the board as reward for controlling games.”

Finley may have to reshuffle his pack again tomorrow, when captain Paul Henry sits out the last match of his ban.

Paul Booth (ankle) and Jamie Tandy (knee) are both definitely out, but Brian Pritchard (thigh) is edging closer to a return to action.

If he is not ready, then Colin McAllister should continue at the heart of Albion’s defence alongside Carl Ruffer, allowing Ryan Broadhead to cover Henry’s absence in midfield.

Darren Jones, who made his debut in the 3-1 win over Stamford last weekend, is an alternative in that central position too.

Kick off tomorrow is 3pm.
