WITTON Albion’s will not travel to fellow play-offs hopefuls Rushall Olympic tomorrow, Saturday, because their opponent’s pitch is still covered by snow.
It’s a sixth successive postponement for Gary Finley’s men since December 12.
“There is some two inches of snow still on the playing surface, while underneath it is still frozen solid,” read a note on Rushall’s official website.
“With more heavy rain predicted for Saturday morning, the club had no alternative but to call off the game.”
No new date has yet been set.
The Dale’s Lane outfit did not even need to call in a referee to look at the pitch after the UniBond League relaxed rules on calling off matches early for a second successive week.
Witton are next due to be in action next Tuesday, January 19, when Cammell Laird are their guests, kick off 7.45pm.
The two teams were due to meet twice at Christmas, but both times the pitch at Wincham Park was frozen.
Meanwhile loanee Mark Cadwallader has returned to parent club Northwich Victoria following his month-long loan stay with Witton.
But the sequence of postponements limited the former Chester City utility man to just one start in Albion’s 1-1 draw with Grantham Town.
The Guardian understands that Albion have no plans to ask for an extension.
