LEEK Town will be motivated to avenge last week’s humbling by Witton when the teams meet again on Tuesday night, according to Albion’s first-team coach.

Reggie McGuire told the Guardian that a 5-2 win at Wincham Park seven days earlier will have left Blues smarting.

He said: “We can expect a tough, tough game.

“Leek are a good side, something they proved in the second half against us.

“They might have got back to 4-3 as well had our goalkeeper not made an important save.”

Witton make one of their shortest away trips of the campaign off the back of an unexpected 4-3 defeat at home to Rugby Town on Saturday.

It ended a 13-match unbeaten run in Division One South, while the Valley became the first visiting team to win at Wincham Park in a Northern Premier League fixture since April of last year.

However Carl Macauley’s men have followed each of their previous three defeats this term with a victory.

McGuire added: “We’ve got to bounce back, we know that.

“And again it’s a moment when we need to find out what the lads have got.

“They were reminded [against Rugby] that it’s important to respect every side we come up against because if we don’t, then we come unstuck.

“That’s happened a few times now, and they have to prove they’ve learned from it.

“In the past few weeks we’ve started games at an unbelievable tempo, but on Saturday there was nothing.

"You could even hear the players saying to each other ‘come on, it’s dead out here!’

“We can’t beat the top teams in the league, like Leek, and then put in a performance like that.”

Kick off is at 7.45pm.
