DANNY Roberts has been ruled out of Witton Albion’s trip to Scarborough Athletic on Saturday by a recurrence of a shoulder injury, and is unlikely to play again this season.

The goalkeeper complained of feeling pain following a 4-2 defeat at league leaders Warrington Town on Easter Monday on only his fourth appearance since returning to Wincham Park last month.

Teenager Dominic Garner will take his place between the posts.

Manager Carl Macauley said: “It’s a massive blow for us.

“We were made up to bring Danny back to the club, so to lose him to [a previous] injury so quickly is a big worry.”

He told the Guardian that the 25-year-old requires a scan.

And that isn’t the end of the former Marine boss’ worries; midfielder Tom Schofield is also unlikely to play again this month after sustaining a knee injury.

Meanwhile Toby Mullarkey, on loan from Crewe Alexandra, is a doubt to face the Seadogs too after suffering mild concussion from a blow to the head during last Saturday’s 4-0 win against Droylsden.

Versatile Jake Parker has also sat out the past fortnight with a sore heel.

“It’s been a nightmare of a week if I’m honest,” rued Macauley.

“We’ll do the best we can with what we have, but we’re going to be stretched between now and the end of the season.

“It remains our target to pick up as many points as we can, and to be positive about doing that.”
