ROB Hopley has said talks over a Witton Albion contract did not last long after signing a deal that ties him to Wincham Park until the end of next season.

The striker, who has been subject of an approach from at least two clubs since the turn of the year, agreed terms with manager Carl Macauley in the past fortnight.

Negotiations went smoothly and Hopley, who has scored 10 goals in 12 starts since signing from Colwyn Bay in November, put pen to paper this week.

“I didn’t need persuading,” said the 31-year-old.

“I’m happy here; I’m scoring goals, and I’ve enjoyed playing for this management team so far.

“I listened to Carl’s plans for the future, and what he thinks it will take to be promoted from this division, and I’m confident we can make it happen together.

“I wasn’t looking to move, particularly after settling in quickly.”

Macauley broke the news to supporters during a forum at Wincham Park last night.

He said: “We’re made up to have tied Rob down.

“He’s been fantastic for us since coming here, and it gives me peace of mind that he will be around while we continue to build a team.”
