WITTON will play Northwich Victoria in a league fixture for the first time in more than 20 years next season.

Albion’s place in the Northern Premier League’s Division One North was confirmed by the Football Association yesterday, Thursday, following their relegation from the Premier Division.

When they were demoted from the top flight previously, in 2009, the Wincham-based outfit were allocated to Division One South.

This time around, with new manager Scott Dundas in charge, they are part of a 22-strong section along with Vics.

Trafford, who finished once place below Witton last term, are drop down to Division One North too.

New Mills, reprieved from being relegated despite finishing in the table’s bottom two, are among their opponents.

Meanwhile North West Counties League champions, and FA Vase final runners-up, Glossop North End replace Padiham.

Albion hosted Northwich, who will be their tenants next season as part of a ground-share arrangement announced in February, in a Football Conference fixture on Easter Monday in 1994.

They drew 1-1 at Wincham Park.

Witton, who ended the campaign at the foot of the standings, had won the return game 2-1 the previous December.

The Northern Premier League confirmed this week the opening round of fixtures in the new campaign will take place on Saturday, August 15.

Next season’s fixture list is scheduled for release on Friday, July 17.
