AS far as Tony Sullivan is concerned, points targets are for others to worry about.

In his programme notes before Albion hosted Ashton United a fortnight ago, chairman Mark Harris wrote that Witton’s tally needs to be 30 by the turn of the year.

They have won three of four league games since, including a 3-0 success against Stamford yesterday.

“I’d love us to have 50 points by January 1!” quipped Sullivan afterwards.

“Our only concern is to keep winning matches to take ourselves away from the thick of the battle at the bottom.

“If we perform like we have done in the past four matches, then we’ll be heading in the right direction.

“It will also get us those points the chairman really wants.”

Albion have four matches left in December, three of them at Wincham Park against opponents in the table’s bottom half.

Workington, Witton’s conquerors in the FA Trophy last month, are the first of those to pay a visit next weekend.

Sullivan said: “Home form will be important for us.

“We need to stamp our authority on games like we have done when Ashton came here and again against Stamford.

“They’re a good side with a decent away record, so we had to hang on when we were under the cosh early in the game.

“Scoring first settled us down, and it helped to have a two-goal cushion at half time.

“We didn’t want to be drawn into a scrap by letting them back into it.”

Substitute Jamie Rainford, a first-half replacement for injured Alex Titchiner, scored twice after Danny Andrews had put Witton ahead from Jon Dawson’s cross.

They marked the former Marine man’s maiden league goals since a switch from Connah’s Quay in October.

“He needed those goals to remind himself he’s good enough,” said Sullivan.

“Jamie doubts himself, and asks himself questions.

“I don’t, because I know what he can do.

“His second goal was proof of how determined he is to do well. It was a reward for not giving up, and hopefully he’ll have silenced a few doubters with his display.”
