TONY Sullivan has promised he will continue to be frank when discussing his side’s displays on the pitch following last night’s defeat of Kidsgrove Athletic.

The Witton Albion manager told the Guardian that a victory against the Division One South back-markers in the Doodson Sport Cup had been a minimum requirement.

That three of his forwards scored goals in a 4-1 success was a bonus.

“I’ve read and heard comments accusing me of talking a good game,” he said.

“I disagree, and would say it’s being honest – that’s the right way to be surely?

“It was important to get through for me and with regard to my position as manager.

“I’m feeling low – Saturday was the worst I’ve felt in a long time and I’m not going to make any excuses.

“I’ve come to the club to arrest a slide, which I haven’t yet done, but rest assured we’re working hard to make that happen.”

Alex Titchiner came off the bench to score twice, including the hosts’ second goal after Will Booth – an Albion youth team player – had replied to Jamie Rainford’s opener.

Another front man, Jamie Henders, contributed a spectacular lob to make it 3-1 before Titchiner swept in a fourth.

Sullivan said: “I’m happy for the strikers because they made a contribution by scoring goals. Every forward is under pressure when they don’t.

“I know, because I used to be one.

“Titch made the impact we know he can; he came on when their defence was tiring, and ran in behind them. He did really well.

“Jamie Henders’ finish was sublime, an unbelievable goal.

“I hope the fans enjoyed seeing us score a few goals, because that’s hardly happened in home games this season.

“People will point to the opposition and say we should beat them, but Kidsgrove came here wanting to impress their new manager and to do well.

“They had a real go at us in the first half, helped by the wind, and we had to ride out a bit of storm. The second half was much better for us.”
