TONY Sullivan believes Saturday’s FA Trophy success at Sheffield can be a catalyst for Witton to stop a disastrous sequence of results.

Albion reached the second qualifying round thanks to Alex Titchiner’s first-half winner, securing for the manager a first success since he arrived at Wincham Park from Cammell Laird.

“It’s a relief for everybody,” he admitted afterwards.

“At full time if felt as if someone had popped a balloon – it was such a high.

“We needed a bit of luck and probably had some, but let’s hope that can be a turning point for us. It’s a start, but we know we need to grind out a few more.

“People might say it can kick-start our season, so let’s see.

“The best thing was to see our supporters’ faces; results haven’t gone our way, and it’s been a tough few weeks. It’s a great feeling to see them smiling.”

Titchiner’s goal, his first of the campaign other than a brace against Barnton in the Mid Cheshire FA Senior Cup, was enough to see off lower-ranked Sheffield.

Albion also shut out an opponent for the first time since September 6.

Sullivan said: “Titch is one of the best strikers in the league, and that’s a fact.

“His reputation is built on doing what he did to get that goal.

“We weren’t under pressure, and were organised defensively – the lads at the back were immense. There’s more faith in them now.

“If you come away in a cup tie and restrict the home team to one shot that hits a post, then that’s a job well done.

“We created a few chances of our own too.

“There’s work to do, we know that, and I’d swap a win in the FA Trophy for three points in the league at the moment.”
