Match pointers

WITTON Albion will hope it is third time lucky as they attempt to pick up a first point of the season at Workington on Saturday.

Brian Pritchard’s men are likely to be boosted by the return of Sam Barnes, who has shaken off a hamstring strain, while Michael Powell has offered to play through pain while he waits for a diagnosis on a knee complaint.

The Northwich club’s record at Borough Park is reason to be optimistic, losing only once in their past seven visits in the Northern Premier League.

Workington, relegated from the Conference North last season, registered a first victory at home to Ramsbottom in midweek.

New boss Gavin Skelton will be without defensive lynchpin Kyle May after he dislocated a shoulder in a 2-1 defeat at Stamford on the season’s opening day.

However he was boosted by Martyn Coleman’s return on Tuesday, with the front man scoring the game’s only goal from new recruit Willie Gibson’s corner.
