FOOTBALL fans plan to walk 17.5 miles in aid of a children’s charity.

Witton Albion supporters will take on a trek from Barnside Vets, in Chester, to their favourite club’s home ground in Wincham before a friendly match against Chester next Saturday.

They will donate money raised through sponsoship to The Joshua Tree.

More than a dozen fans will take part in the event, which takes place almost 20 years to the day since supporters first walked the same route for charity.

Organiser Jim Powell said: “The Joshua Tree is Witton Albion’s charity of the year and we’ve been looking to do something in memory of our dear friend and supporter Tony Waterman.

"What better way to do it than to literally follow in the footsteps of the old Wittoners and take on the trek from Chester to our home ground?"

Setting out at 7.30am, the walkers will stop off at The Blue Cap, in Sandiway, along the route with collection buckets at the ready.

The group is expected to reach Wincham Park before kick off at 3pm.
