BRIAN Pritchard says Witton will not be frightened when they take on the league top scorers Worksop Town this weekend.

The Tigers have scored 86 goals in the Premier Division this term – more than 100 in all competitions – though they were beaten on their own pitch by Albion in October.

They also let slip a 3-1 lead in a defeat at Wincham Park last season.

“On paper people will predict we’ll lose,” said Pritchard.

“Well, let them say that.

“We know Worksop are a fantastic team, one that’s in a position we found ourselves this time last year. Everybody knows about their attacking threat, including us.

“But we’ll be attempting to win the game. Even the best teams have an Achilles heel, and it’s up to us to exploit theirs.

“One of our happiest memories this season was winning there; we were struggling at the time, but Dave Walker came in and gave everybody a lift.

“The run-up to this game feels similar to then.”

He will not have Walker, who rejoined the club last week after leaving Rushall Olympic, available this time though.

The 30-year-old had surgery on a hernia yesterday, Thursday, and will not play again until March.

Pritchard told the Guardian his squad’s spirit remains intact despite a first loss of the calendar year at AFC Fylde last weekend.

Witton went down 3-0, but created as many chances as their in-form hosts.

He added: “I know it sounds crazy, but it’s the happiest I’ve felt after a defeat.

“We were unlucky to lose 3-0; the difference between the teams was in the finishing – they were clinical, we weren’t.

“It’s important to remember we hadn’t lost in five matches before that game, so are not short on confidence.

“We’re still not, and won’t be throwing in the towel.

“Everybody at the club is calm about the table at the moment.

“We have games in hand, though of course we need to make sure we take something from them.

“It’s a culture shock for some of our players to find themselves in this position, particularly those that helped us get into the play-offs last season.

“The experience will do them good though; if we stay up, that will be as satisfying as finishing fourth.”
