WITTON’S players need to remember the things they got right during a nine-match unbeaten run, according to manager Brian Pritchard.

After back-to-back defeats – an FA Trophy exit against lower-ranked opponents followed by Albion’s heaviest reverse of the season last weekend – he is determined to avoid a repeat of the slump in form that made September forgettable.

Grantham Town are their hosts later today, Saturday.

“It’s important we return home with a positive result,” said Pritchard.

“We need to put behind us as quickly as possible what has happened over the past week or so, because before that we’d put together a sequence of results without losing.

“With no midweek game, there has been time to reflect on what went wrong in the games against Leek and King’s Lynn, and the players have listened to our criticism.

“They haven’t countered it either because they know those performances – particularly last weekend – weren’t good enough.”

He will take succour from Witton’s record on the road at Grantham; Albion have won their past three league matches there, losing only once on nine previous visits to play a Northern Premier League game.

They led 2-0 inside eight minutes during a comfortable 3-1 victory in April.

Pritchard said: “We need to play in a similar fashion, without fear.

“Grantham’s team is stronger now than it was then, which is reflected in the promising start they’ve had to the season.

“However, we’ll approach the game with the same attitude as we did that day; that’s to find our feet quickly and adapt to the conditions.

“The wind machine was on last season and it may be again, so we must be ready.”

Anthony Sheehan (knee) is ruled out indefinitely while he waits for a scan on an injury sustained during Witton’s replay victory against FC United of Manchester earlier this month.

Josh Hancock and Kyle Wilson (both calf) are doubts to feature.

New recruit Adam Parkhouse, signed on a month-long loan from Stalybridge Celtic on Friday, is available along with Cliff Moyo.
