Match pointers
AND so they try again.

Witton Albion and FC United of Manchester will attempt tomorrow, Saturday, for a third time to play their first qualifying round tie – this time at Radcliffe Borough’s Stainton Park ground.

Both  teams have played only once since a 2-2 draw at Wincham Park a fortnight ago, scoring between them 11 goals in Premier Division wins against lowly Stafford and Stocksbridge Park Steels respectively.

Neville Thompson has returned to Albion’s line-up in that time, scoring twice in last Saturday’s five-goal drubbing of Rangers.

Cliff Moyo is available again after serving a one-match ban, though Marc Joseph may continue to play at full back after impressing there in his absence.

If he does, then Michael Powell will play alongside Ben Harrison in the centre of defence.

Albion protect a seven-match unbeaten sequence in all competitions, though their record in away games against FC United is poor after three defeats in four attempts.

The Rebels were happy to see front man Michael Norton open his goal account for the season in a 6-2 thrashing of Stocksbridge.

New recruit Amjad Iqbal, who made his debut for FC United in the first head-to-head with Witton, came through his first 90 minutes in the same game.

Manager Karl Marginson, whose team had won only one of nine previous matches in league and cup prior to beating Steels, must decide whether Tom Davies or Andy Pearson partners him in defence this weekend.
