Witton Albion to host Runcorn Town in the Cheshire FA Senior Cup after pitch passes afternoon inspection
VOLUNTEERS’ work on the pitch at Witton has been rewarded after a referee passed fit the playing surface for tonight’s Cheshire FA Senior Cup tie.
More than a dozen helpers have cleared a covering of snow over the course of a day, leading to match official John Dowd judging that their second round date with Runcorn Town can go ahead.
It has previously been twice postponed because of the weather.
“It’s been a Herculean effort,” said Albion boss Brian Pritchard, who has been at Wincham Park the past two days to assist ground staff with their work.
“We owe a huge debt of thanks to those that have turned out to give us a hand.”
North West Counties League Premier Division outfit Runcorn, the original hosts for the game only to cede home advantage following back-to-back postponements, provide the opposition.
Managed by ex-Witton player Simon Burton, they will have one eye on Saturday’s FA Vase fourth round encounter with Rocester.
The hosts, without suspended striker Steve Foster, are likely to hand starts to Stuart Plant in goal and Josh Horne in the centre of defence.
Witton’s usual match admission prices apply, that is £9 for adults and £6 for concessions.
