THE armed forces were honoured at Witton Albion on Saturday to celebrate the club’s promotion on the pitch last season.
Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWaC) and Northwich Town Council together made a donation to Help for Heroes and the Royal British Legion in recognition of the team’s on-field achievement.
Brian Pritchard’s men were promoted to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League’s top tier after a three-years absence following a play-offs final defeat of Curzon Ashton in April.
Chairman Mark Harris requested that funds originally earmarked for a civic reception, scheduled for August only to then be postponed, should be used to support the charities instead.
The gesture was marked with a presentation on the pitch during the interval of Witton’s home defeat against Grantham Town.
