ROD Thornley bagged a debut goal as Witton racked up their fourth successive win.

The former Altrincham striker added quality to Albion's attacking play, looping a stunning opening goal over Eastwood keeper Alex Goddard to break the deadlock.

Jim Vince's men were made to work hard for all three points against resolute opposition.

The first clear opportunity fell to the visitors on the quarter hour, defender Gary Breach rising highest from a corner only to head straight at Jon Kennedy.

Thornley struck 10 minutes later.

He was put clean through on the right hand side of the box and his first time cross-shot found the back of the net. Lucky or inspired, it mattered not to Witton's first 400-plus gate of the campaign.

Adam Warlow had two opportunities to double his side's tally before half time, but on both occasions Goddard saved well from close range.

The second half started much the same as the first, with both teams restricted to a series of half chances.

It was the 72nd minute before Witton's patience was rewarded.

Thornley again played an important role, his clever footwork on the edge of the box was followed by a perfectly weighted ball into the path of overlapping Steve Brodie.

The midfielder fired an unstoppable shot past Goddard at the near post to net his second goal of the season.
