Witton Albion manager Gary Finley is sent off for second successive match

WITTON just do not do dull moments.

There was never one during this encounter although the theme of Albion finishing the match with one less player than their opponents – plus their manager being sent to the stands – is a familiar one.

Except this time Gary Finley’s opposite number joined him.

“Apparently they both stepped out of the white line around the dugout,” said Witton chairman Mark Harris.

“Bizarre? Yes. Harsh? That too.”

Top scorer Steve Foster had been dismissed too minutes earlier following a clash with a Glapwell defender.

All a far cry from an excellent opening by the hosts.

The outcome could have been a different one had referee Brian McGill shown a red card, rather than a yellow one, to the visitors’ custodian Andy Richmond after he tripped Foster with the front runner clear on goal.

Carl Lamb’s penalty hit the post.

Albion continued to dominate - Peter Heler was denied only by the net-minder’s backside – but without the reward of an opening goal.

Their guests landed the first of their three sucker punches on 23 minutes, on-loan forward Jamie Clarke lashing a shot in off the bar.

Glapwell seized the points with two emphatic finishes in as many minutes.

On 39 minutes a free kick was met by the head of defender Matt Varley, before Ian Brown converted from close range to leave the home team staring at a second successive defeat.

After the break an errant kick from Richmond saw the quick-thinking Foster try his luck from the halfway line but the ball ended wide of the target.

A minute later Albion did finally get on the scoresheet, Brad Maylett teeing up Heler who made no mistake in front of goal.

Foster’s early exit followed and Glapwell hung on.

The closest Witton came to narrowing their deficit was when Steve Brodie scurried his shot past the left upright after fellow substitute Mike Moseley had provided an assist.

Glapwell spurned a glorious chance too; they had four players against on back-marker only to stray offside when it seemed far simpler to score.
