Witton Albion's front runners find the target in easy win at Quorn

WITTON’S promotion push has been kickstarted by a switch to all-out attack.

Gary Finley unleashed three of his four forwards from the start on Saturday, and the trio repaid his faith with a goal apiece in a win that was easier than even the scoreline suggests.

What a difference a week makes.

Albion had not won since November before a scruffy win at Kidsgrove Athletic in midweek but, buoyed by that success, they tore into their opponents from the outset on Saturday.

Newcomer Ronnie Morgan, whose clever movement and ability to ghost into goalscoring positions earned him the tag of match-winner on Tuesday, was on target inside six minutes.

His was the decisive touch from Peter Heler’s drilled free kick.

Top scorer Steve Foster forced Quorn keeper Steve Norris to save smartly when he stretched to divert Carl Lamb’s assist towards goal, then the hosts’ custodian used his knee to stop the latter finding the net with a header direct from Jamie Tandy’s corner.

Former Salford City goals-getter Foster then fluffed a sitter after Morgan had handed him the chance to score, rolling the ball against a post when it seemed easier to score.

He made amends with a clinical finish on the half hour though, sending a sweetly-struck volley past Norris after Colin McAllister had flicked on.

Carl Ruffer, returning to the team after a three-matches ban, headed in Tandy’s set piece to settle the outcome before half time.

There was still time for Anthony Marriott to reduce the deficit when he finished smartly at the back post from Sam Wood’s driven assist.

After the interval Norris diverted Ruffer’s header over the bar while at the other end Ash Robinson sliced horribly off target when well-placed.

Lamb tried a spectacular shot when he noticed Norris off his line, forcing the net-minder to scurry backwards as the ball dropped inches over the bar.

He did find the net on 70 minutes, spinning and shooting in one smooth movement after substitute Mike Moseley supplied an assist.
