WITTON Albion lost a league match front of their fans for the first time since August to leave themselves further adrift of the play-offs places.
Chasetown’s reward for completing a double is top spot.
Colin McAllister’s dismissal in the last minute only added to Witton’s woe, and they have now not beaten anybody since November.
They trailed when two attempts to clear a crossed ball failed, leaving unmarked Ben Steane to shoot past Aaron Grundy in Albion’s goal.
Earlier the former Fleetwood Town custodian had done well when he produced a brilliant flying save to tip David Egan’s shot around a post.
The hosts only produced a couple of real threats on Ryan Price’s goal in the first half; Carl Lamb’s shot was bundled away for a corner while substitute Steve Foster – on for disappointing debutant Sean Doherty – struck a stoppage time effort over the bar.
The second period sparked a change though.
McAllister tested Price near the base of the right upright four minutes in and then Foster showed his goal-scoring prowess to on 53 minutes when he directed an exquisite lob from the edge of the area over the stricken keeper.
Peter Heler’s fine approach five minutes later deserved better than Brad Maylett’s shot deflecting off target then on the hour Foster snatched at an opportunity, sending the ball wide of the left post.
Next it was skipper Paul Henry’s turn to go close but he blazed over before Foster sent an effort against the back of the right post.
But Chasetown top scorer Reece Styche, who joined Blue Square Premier strugglers Forest Green Rovers on loan on Monday, lashed in the visitors’ winner with a smart shot ten minutes from time.
Albion’s miserable afternoon worsened in the last minute when McAllister received a red card for a tackle that referee Chris Kavanagh as deemed had denied Ramone Stephen a chance to score.
