GARY Finley admitted his men had been naïve at both ends of the pitch as they drew for the first time this season.
The Witton Albion manager told the Guardian that the contest should have been over long before Quorn launched a second half comeback.
In the end the hosts relied on Steve Foster’s last-minute penalty to avoid defeat.
“We were sloppy in both boxes,” said Finley.
“There were so many chances to score before half time that I lost count, but we weren’t clinical in front of goal. Then we get done with two silly mistakes at the back.
“The lads showed their spirit by fighting back to get a draw, but it was a disappointing day all round.”
Dylan Adams’ second half dismissal for a rash tackle on Cameron Keast did not lighten his mood; the full back will miss three matches through suspension.
Witton, beaten at Chasetown in midweek, lost top spot too.
Peter Heler fluffed their first chance on two minutes, driving off target following Jamie Tandy’s corner, then Foster had a goal ruled out for offside.
Quorn keeper Craig Jones denied Brad Maylett before thwarting Paul Booth, recalled to cover for the suspended Stuart Rudd, from another set piece.
Finley’s men did beat their guests’ shot-stopper on the half hour, but Steve Hall’s header came back off the bar.
At the other end Albion custodian Joe Clegg was smart to stop Ash Robinson putting Quorn ahead against the run of play.
Witton’s persistence paid four minutes after the interval after Steve Purton handled a Maylett cross. Foster was assured from the spot.
He should have settled the outcome on the hour, but rushed his shot after Maylett had spotted an opening.
Albion, presented with the Club of the Month award for September before kick, off were punished for their profligacy on 66 minutes, Purton making amends for conceding the spot-kick by crashing home from close range.
Adams left the field next then, as Witton adjusted, Quorn top scorer Phil Miller ghosted on to a through ball to put the visitors ahead.
Finley threw on Mike Moseley in search of a leveller, and he earned a second spot-kick after Russ Peel grabbed a fist full of shirt.
Foster did the rest.
