Match pointers

WITTON Albion host table-toppers Curzon Ashton knowing they can ill afford to lose a third successive match in seven days.

The omens are not good.

Brian Pritchard’s men have lost three of six encounters against teams in the Evo-Stik NPL Division One North in front of their own fans this term.

Perhaps more surprising is that they have retrieved something only twice – against AFC Fylde and Mossley in matches at the Help for Heroes Stadium – from nine attempts after conceding a contest’s opening goal.

Pritchard welcomes back fit again Paul Booth after illness, while Chris Gahgan is pushing hard for a recall following an unconvincing display by Albion’s attack in last weekend’s 2-1 defeat against play-offs rivals Skelmersdale.

Top scorer Alex Titchiner, on target against Kendal Town in the Doodson Sport Cup on Tuesday, is desperate to end a league drought lasting almost three months.

Only in-form AFC Fylde have scored more points than Curzon Ashton in the past eight matches.

John Flanagan’s men are the section’s best travellers too, winning 10 of their 14 encounters on the road, picking up more than half of their points haul away from the Tameside Stadium.

They have scored in every league game since October, a sequence of 14 games.

Kristian Dennis (knee) hasn’t played for six weeks after he was injured in a 3-0 win at Wakefield last month, but everybody else is fit to face Witton.
