Witton manager aims to measure progress when Albion take on AFC Fylde

WITTON manager Paul Ogden believes tonight’s opponents AFC Fylde can be a benchmark by which to measure his own team’s progress so far this summer.

And Albion travel to take on their fellow promotion hopefuls buoyed by an opening day success at home to Garforth Town.

Fylde lost at Lancaster City.

“They remain a very good side [despite that result],” said Ogden.

“There’s no doubt it will be a test for us.

“I went to watch them in pre-season and they are a very organised team who carry a threat going forward because they have so much attacking flair.”

A familiar face to Witton fans, midfielder Danny Penswick, is ruled out with injury.

But the hosts can call upon Michael Stringfellow after he completed a suspension while new captain Jamie Milligan, signed from Fleetwood Town this summer, makes his home debut.

Ogden hopes to count on fit-again Ben Harrison in defence, while Danny Warner is pushing for a start at full back if Matthew Wood is deployed further forward.

Chris Smith, impressive as a substitute in Witton’s win at the weekend, is in the reckoning too.

“It’s important to be prepared,” said Ogden.

“We’ve had a close look at how they play and believe we can cope with what they throw at us.”
