CHORLEY fans can look forward to a bright future if their opening day performance is any indicator of things to come.
New manager Gary Flitcroft guided his team to the section’s biggest victory of the day against Woodley Sports in front of a near 500-strong crowd.
Jack Dorney hit the league’s only hat-trick on Day One as the Magpies hit their opponents for six.
Cammell Laird were the next highest scorers with four at home against Radcliffe Borough, while last season’s runners-up Lancaster City got off the mark again this time around with a home win over AFC Fylde.
Having been beaten in the play-offs in both the last two campaigns, Curzon Ashton will be looking to make it third time lucky this term.
They got off to the right start, edging out Leigh Genesis by the odd goal in three after falling behind.
Trafford appeared to have the points in the bag going in to stoppage time at Salford City but the home team hit back with two late goals to grab a share of the spoils.
It took Durham City seven months to land their first point last season but they did not have to wait that long in the new season after drawing with Clitheroe.
The only goalless game of the day was fought out between Harrogate Railway Athletic and Prescot Cables.
Elsewhere there were away wins for Warrington Town and Bamber Bridge while Skelmersdale United and Witton Albion made home advantage count.
