RYAN Broadhead has returned to Northwich Victoria from neighbours Witton.

The former Middlewich Town midfielder told Albion boss Gary Finley earlier today, Friday, that he wanted to test himself at a higher level.

“It is always a disappointment to lose someone of Ryan's capability,” said secretary Graham Shuttleworth.

“The fact that he was being spoken about by some of our supporters as a potential Player of the Year is a fair measure of just how highly he was thought of.”

Broadhead trained with Vics last summer but made only one start – in a Mid-Cheshire FA Senior Cup tie against Middlewich – for Andy Preece’s men.

He arrived at Wincham Park via UniBond Premier Division outfit Ashton United.

His versatility – he has filled in as a defender and a midfielder - established him quickly as a fans favourite there in his 20 appearances.

Shuttleworth added: “To say that some supporters will be more than a little disappointed by this news is an understatement.”

Broadhead remained registered at Northwich even after his departure and his arrival is a timely one for Preece.

Brian Dutton is suspended, while Michael Connor, Ian Herring and Nat Kerr all face bans in the coming weeks.

The Vics boss can not sign new players while the club has outstanding bills to pay to rival teams, leaving him short on numbers.

His headache worsened in midweek when Jamie Vermiglio (hamstring) limped out of their stalemate with Vauxhall Motors.

Early indications are he is unlikely to play again this season.
