Why should I watch..?

Witton have made a hugely encouraging start to their first campaign back in the Northern Premier League’s top-flight after two years away, and registered a first victory in midweek against Buxton.

That leaves them on four points after two games.

Carl Macauley’s men made their Wincham Park home a fortress last term, losing only one of their 21 league games in front of their own supporters.

Meanwhile Sutton Coldfield arrive in Northwich promising goals after they followed a 3-1 win against Shaw Lane on the opening day with a 4-1 hammering at Stafford on Tuesday.

What they’ve said

“I thought we were fantastic in midweek.

“The three lads in midfield showed fantastic energy levels, and I felt an extra pair of legs in that part of the pitch made us stronger.

“We dealt with direct balls Buxton sent forward, and created better chances than they did at the other end.

“Every game is going to be so tough though, and I expect Sutton Coldfield to be no different.”

Numbers game

If selected, Witton Albion’s captain Anthony Brown will make his 50th appearance for the club.

Carl Macauley’s men have won eight of the past nine competitive matches at Wincham Park since a 4-3 defeat against Rugby Town back in March.

Man to keep an eye on

Ben Hedley

The teenager, who has switched to Witton from Morecambe on a month-long loan, impressed on his debut during a midweek win against Buxton at Wincham Park.

A midfielder, he lined up in front of Prince Haywood and James Foley in a 3-5-2 formation.

Despite only meeting his new teammates on the day of the game, he showed a range of impressive touches and intelligent movement.

Witton team news

Albion will be without Scott Lycett after the defender completed a switch to former league rivals Leek on Friday afternoon.

Carl Macauley, Witton’s manager, also told the Guardian that wide man Micah Evans is unlikely to feature because of a calf niggle, while full-back Matty Devine will have a back complaint assessed in the morning.

Will Jones, who scored a decisive goal against Buxton in midweek, is pushing for a first start of the campaign.
