CARL Macauley hailed Anthony Gardner’s loyalty and tipped the full-back to get better after he made a 300th appearance for Witton Albion on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old celebrated reaching the milestone by helping his side to a 1-0 win against Buxton in their first game at home since returning to the Northern Premier League’s top-flight.
“This is his club, and he loves playing here,” said the Witton manager.
“I know other sides have wanted to sign him, but he’s shown what he thinks of the place by staying on here.
“He’s been fantastic for me since I took charge; he’s always willing to learn and listen to advice.
“During a team talk in the dressing room, his eyes are focused on the words being said.
“He’s a great player already, but that’s a fantastic attitude to have – he doesn’t think he’s the finished article; instead he takes things in and acts on them.
“I think he can improve as well.
“To reach a milestone like that in non-league, with players moving around often, is incredible.”
