CARL Macauley has insisted his Witton Albion players will make up in desire what they lack in freshness when they travel to Shaw Lane tonight.

It will be their fifth game in the past 10 days, a sequence that has already yielded three wins and a draw.

As a result, the rivals for the Northern Premier League’s Division One South title start their meeting level.

“It’s a huge game – obviously!” said Macauley.

“You could see there were tired legs out on the field [at Gresley] on Saturday, but that was their fourth match in a week.

“That’s the way it is, and we’ve just had to get on with it.

“To pick up 10 points in that time is really good; of course, we’d have liked to win all four, but couldn’t quite manage that.

“But you’ll see plenty of spirit against Shaw Lane; we’ll be right up for it.”

The visitors will have midfielder Prince Haywood available again after he recovered from a hamstring complaint, while defender Michael Wilson (ankle) is also hoping to make himself available.

Both players have missed the past two games after sustaining their injuries in a 2-0 win at home to Carlton last Tuesday.

Macauley said: “Everybody came through the weekend unscathed, and that’s a big bonus.

“We’ve been looking forward for the big one since.

“It’s important we stay focused, disciplined and professional in what we do because the three points up for grabs will be really important.”

Shaw Lane have conceded first in each of their past four league games.

They could not turn things around at Belper, losing 3-1, but they have recovered in each of the next three to claim a positive result.

On Saturday, they had trailed 2-0 at promotion play-offs hopefuls Newcastle Town.

Kick off tonight is 7.45pm.
